Calcaneal Fractures

Calcaneal Fractures

Calcaneal fractures present challenges for active individuals, impacting their ability to wear shoes and causing chronic pain. These fractures can also have negative effects on careers due to the complexity of the calcaneus bone and the surrounding soft tissue, which complicates treatment.

While some calcaneal fractures can be treated without surgery, severe cases often necessitate surgical intervention. However, traditional open surgery carries significant risks, such as deep infections, wound reopening, and even potential amputation.

Fortunately, there have been significant advancements in surgical techniques that allow for minimally invasive treatments. Although this innovative approach is currently practiced by only a limited number of surgeons in our country, I have introduced and regularly perform these operations in our region. As a result, we have observed improved outcomes and a notable decrease in major complications.

I am actively teaching my colleagues this technique to raise awareness and knowledge of this innovative approach among a wider audience.
