Heel Bumps

Heel bumps or Haglund deformity occurs where the tendon connects to the heel bone, called the calcaneum. It typically presents as a painful bony lump at the back of the heel, causing significant pain and making it uncomfortable to wear shoes. Some patients can well respond to a targeted injection of shock wave therapy.

More often than not surgery is required. The valid surgical option is to shorten the heel bone through tiny skin incisions to relieve to pressure from a diseased tendon on diseased bone. It is called MIS Zadek’s osteotomy and has a very high success rate. I am the sole surgeon in region who performs this technique regularly .Patients are able to walk straight away in a special boot for about 4 weeks. Pain commonly improves over the course of several weeks.

Heel bumps are small, painful protrusions on the heel caused by friction, pressure, or inflammation. They can lead to discomfort while walking or standing, often worsened by ill-fitting shoes, requiring proper footwear, rest, and medical treatment for relief.
